Why this Book

Reflecting on the vision and purpose behind writing this book

I am writing this book because I believe the work of Global Vikas Trust demonstrates that ending poverty is not only possible but practical.

My conviction comes from direct experience. During a visit to Parli in Maharashtra's Beed district in 2021, I observed a level of rural transformation rarely achieved at scale. Farmers who once struggled to survive were generating significantly higher and more stable incomes. Communities once shaped by scarcity were building institutions and planning for growth.

What distinguished this transformation was its systemic design.

Global Vikas Trust addressed poverty not as an isolated condition but as an interconnected system shaped by ecological, economic, institutional, and social forces. Its results suggest that integrated approaches can succeed where fragmented models often fail.

I write this book at a critical moment. As India approaches its centenary of independence in 2047, the question facing policymakers and practitioners alike is whether poverty will remain a defining challenge or become a solvable one.

This book argues for the latter.
